On 2009, JB and Jr. individually auditioned for JYP Entertainment. With their exceptional dance skills and good looks, they tied the 5th Open auditions as the overall winner and later become a trainee under JYP Entertainment.

In 2011, both landed a role on then upcoming sequel of 2011's hit Drama Dream High

On February 3, 2012, it was revealed that JB and Jr. will debut officially as a boy band sometime during the second half of 2012.

JJ Project是由韓國JYPEntertainment娛樂公司準備推出的新男子團體，5月8日，公開了“JJ Project”的預告視頻，並稱這將是自JYP創立以來最有趣的一個Project。該團裡由兩名成員JB（林宰範）和Jr.（朴振榮）組成，兩人曾經通過電視劇《Dream High 2》 以演員的身份出道。
